Tir Coed aims to deliver the benefits of trees and woodlands to rural communities by addressing the following themes (many of Tir Coed's projects will deliver across more than one theme):

  1. Promoting Health and Well-being

  2. Promoting Rural Regeneration

  3. Alleviating Social Exclusion and Deprivation

Promoting Health and Well-being

Through various initiatives we aim to:

  •  Promote health and well being through existing and new, recreational opportunities in woodlands

  •  Provide information on local woodland based recreation

  •  Promote woodlands as venues for community events e.g. forest fun days, woodland arts and crafts events

Promoting Rural Regeneration

Through a wide range of initiatives we aim to:

  •  Facilitate training in countryside management skills throughout Wales

  •  Promote and facilitate training in wood craft skills e.g. woodcarving /woodturning workshops

  •  Promote the educational benefits of woodlands as an opportunity for further education and lifelong learning

  •  Deliver a holistic approach within the wood supply chain through improved networking and co-ordination with different wood industry organisations and producers

  •  Contribute to the reduction of out-migration of young people by providing sustainable, socio-economic opportunities for young people in the forestry and woodland related sector

  •  Ensure good practice in woodland management e.g. encouraging and facilitating woodlands to become certified

  •  Promote and market local timber products to stimulate local economies

Alleviating Social Exclusion and Deprivation

We aim to:

  •  Combat social exclusion and deprivation by facilitating social and economic access to woodland-related activities

  •  Prioritise woodland-related activities with "hard to reach" disadvantaged groups, thus enabling, empowering and emboldening such persons.
